Mexico 180 right now is mostly a narrow two lane road with a abundance of Tope's (speed bumps) or Mexican stop signs. Every village no matter how small has their share of Tope's. The local small vehicle drivers often ignore them, but trucks, buses and prudent RV drivers come to a stop before forcing each axle over them. Only to start over again often in only 25 feet. These axle breakers and the narrow traffic lanes limited our speed to 45 mph at best, 0-5 mph in towns! We saw signs of new 4 lane roads to come and eventually we did find smooth wide lanes that were finished. We bumped the speed up to 45-50 and speed along happy as larks until the dreaded sign "DESVIACION A 500 METERS" (translates to detour ahead) appeared. NO! not now I cried we are suppose to turn. In 500 meters the pavement gave way to bulldozed sand and we were left to figure out for ourselves where we were suppose to travel. We are now just a few miles south of the large city of Veracruz and the traffic was buzzing around in utter chaos. We tucked in behind a truck and followed what he did hoping he was going to eventually turn north toward the city. Most of hwy 150 almost up the Boco del Rio bridge is under construction. After turning onto to the 4 lane beach road to Anton Lizardo and the El Rey RV Park we again were forced to drive in the ditch around road construction. The view of the ocean and the skyline of Veracruz out my windshield was worth the drive. You may have already guessed we 4 retired to the beach immediately with a drink and a lawn chair, here after referred to as a beach chair.
