TOWN OF TAMASHYKA OUR FIRST INTER ACTION WITH THE PEOPLE OF THE AMAZON

First stop on the River for us!!!

This town with its population of 5000 we will discover is a metropolis compared to  other population centers on the Western Amazon.  In addition to being a commercial hub it also serves as a county seat.

How many of you recognise Patsy's back side?  I have a lot of these pictures as she is always bending over doing something.  This time she is sharing with a group of Tamashyka's youngest residences pictures of themselves she had just taken during our brief leg stretching break on our trip out to the Lodge.

Transportation up and down the river comes in many forms, but for longer trips, perhaps to the big city of Iquitoes you can always catch the River Bus.

The arrival of the River Bus in Tamashyka causes a flurry of activity. Prospective passengers, friends and family meeting passengers.

Vendors also arrive providing food and beverages for the long journey arrive at the rickety dock.

Good service is provided by the vendors, there is no need to leave and risk losing your precious seat.  Seats are only provided on the upper level.

Below is standing room or hanging room only!!  This is a Cabybara, it appears to be about 6 feet long all stretched out. They are nothing less than the largest Rat in the world they really grow to be 25" tall and weigh 200 lbs.  Was he being taken to market....back to the family for food.....spin your on ending.

More on another day as we make our way up river.
