Villahermosa and the La Venta Museum

Villahermosa, Tabasco has a lot of trucks, pushy taxis and the beautiful La Venta Museum.  They have also had devastating floods just a month ago.  Because of this we weren't sure if the Campground would be open.   Kevin and Sandy, a  Australian traveling couple left Catemoco 2 days ahead of us and phoned back to report that all was dry and the park was open. YEA we won't have to drive 300 miles to find a place to stop or sleep in a noisy WalMart!  There was still a lot of standing water along the way and a major highway washout.  The major difficulty of the day  was trying to make the retorno (legal u-turn) to double back to enter the park.  The traffic was absolutely horrible.

This is suppose to be 2 lanes.

We did finally get turned around and parked.  The campground was in excellent shape.  We had stayed here about five years ago and found everything in better shape than we remembered.

As usual it did not take us long to reward ourselves for a good days travel!

We almost didn't go into the La Venta Museum with Skip and Helen, we had seem it so many times before.  We decided that  the walk would do us good and tagged along and are we glad we did.  The museum/park had several new exhibits and was very fresh and lovely.

One of the many Omec heads on display throughout the outdoor exhibt area.  These heads are huge , this one is around 6ft. and dates from 400 to 700 B.C. They have been moved to the mseum from the nearby La Venta Historic Site.

Next up we are off to see if we can find some Myan Ruins.......  more to come.
