Our destination today is Yaxchilan Ruins which is up river from the "docks". This trip up river will take us a little over a hour depending on the current. The cost of the boat is $60 for as many as the boat will hold. Today there is 5 paying customers. There is a young Guatemalan mother and her 4 year old daughter hitchhiking with us today. After the boat drops us off at the ruin he will drop her off across the river from the ruin in Guatemala. The Indians move back and forth across the border freely in this part of the Jungle. However if we wanted to enter Guatemala by river we could do so. There is a official entry point for water arrivals about 1 hour by river from here.
These boats are not Chris Crafts.
Helen waves goodbye to the young Guatemalan family. The 4 year olds name was also Helen.
The enrty into the Yaxchilan Ruins is through the Labyrinth. The Labyrinth has been left in its original state. The are no lights to help us find out way through.
The flash on my camera awakened these napping bats.
The image of Royalty was craved throughout the grounds. This is a example of but one craving on the underneath side of a entryway.
Look closely at the top of the picture for the Great Acropolis
Helen and Ron are to be congratulated for they climbed all the way to the Acropolis
Tired but happy we posed for one final picture before we begin our 3 hour journey back to the rigs and our own sweet beds.
