SOUTH BOUND FROM ESTERO BEACH

IT'S ALWAYS HARD TO LEAVE THE BEACH
We leave the chilly coastal resort of Estero Beach wishing not only for a dry day but one that is considerably warmer.  The cold front that is messing with everyone on the west coast of the U.S. is keeping us bundled up in our jackets and sweats.

The only water we will see for three days will be in a bottle.
The old Baja road of a half dozen years ago has improved greatly.  We remember this 200 mile section of highway as a endurance trial for driver, passengers and vehicle suspension.  The pavement is smooth, the lanes wide and the shoulders although not exactly wide exist.

We found a 30 mile stretch under construction, but even the detour was not the usual spontaneous path devised by local drivers.  As we progressed down the Baja we began to notice that the worst Vados and seasonal stream beds now have bridge crossings.

For two days we followed the circus down the highway.

We played leap frog down the road until....

they stopped to set up for a performance.  They would give one show break down and pass us again the next day.  If we ever stop for the night at the same place we will have to go see the show.

The Cactus Hotel in El Rosario was a sweet find.  The new part of the complex was absolutely top drawer and charming.  Just stay away from rooms 1-8, these rooms are part of original old motel and have not been upgraded.
